11/2025 (upcoming) solo exhibition at Audiovisual art center, Alytus, Lithuania

"Encrypted" is a visual journey through time, cultures, and symbols, in which I explore visual codes passed down from generation to generation and their connection to the contemporary world. In creating my textile works, I draw on the archaic Indian wooden block printing technique and the divonai—bed cover weaving patterns from the Dzūkija region—forming a unique language between two cultures.

The project is rooted in a deep interest in traditions and natural dyeing methods—cotton canvases are displayed, printed with plant-based dyes such as indigo, madder root, and turmeric. The works reveal the possibilities of color layering, while “glitch” effects integrated into the patterns—like printing errors or coding glitches—create unexpected, contemporary narratives.

My experiences during the artist’s residency in Ajrakhpur, India (Gujarat region), where I worked with local craftsmen, provided me with a deeper understanding of the subtleties and paradoxes of this craft: the current relationship between artisan and artist, how the accelerating pace of life affects ancient textile-making techniques, and what compromises must be sought between tradition and the needs of the modern world.

"Encrypted" is not only an artistic reflection on identity and cultural memory but also an invitation for the viewer to look at traditional patterns in a new way: as a living, evolving code where the mastery of past craftsmen blends with the search for contemporary identity. The exhibition invites you to pause and listen to the language of symbols—between geometry, colors, reflection, rhythm—and to seek your own authentic interpretation.

The project is funded by the Lithuanian Culture Council (Lietuvos kultūros taryba)
